So who won my shoes?

 On Monday I came to work with my new shoes on. All was good and I was doing that thing where you check out your reflection in shop windows and think “check me out with my new shoes”.

But then, disaster struck, as I was walking through Trafalgar Square I realised that god damn did these bad boys rub my skin and hurt like hell! I persevered and continued walking to work which I eventually reached as I writhed in miserable pain.

At this point I launched a full scale investigation into the cause (and motive) behind my shoes’ torture upon my soles. It was then that I found that I had bought a size 9 pair of shoes and not a size 10 which would surely have been more comfortable for my annoyingly sized 9.5 feet.

So, in a moment of anger and frustration I decided to give them away to whoever wanted them. I wrote a blog post explaining that the person that sends me the best picture of a tiger will win my shoes and I would walk home barefoot.

So, here’s my favourite (cough and only cough) entires to this miniature competition followed by the one that I am now declaring as the winner.

This entry from @callumsaunders was sent by Twitter within about 60 seconds of publishing the post. Full marks for speed of delivery and releasing the inner copywriter, it was almost as fast and growly as an actual tiger.

This one from @halfapair was also sent by twitter and gets extra points for thinking so far out the box that the box is barely visible any more. What box people will say when it gets a pencil at D&AD.

Now I was torn between this bad ass tiger by @fitby30 and the winner because of it’s attention to detail and actual resemblance to a tiger but it was picked to the post by the winners injection of comedy.

And the winning entry goes to for making me laugh like an adulterous woman being tickled by a multi-millionaire golfer.

No points go to @ImJustMike because he cheated by sending an OLD picture that’s NOT EVEN A TIGER! In fact he was disqualified.

That’s all folks. Next time I’m wearing uncomfortable underwear I’ll give that away too.

LVPO Bar does great customer service

On Tuesday I went to LVPO Bar on Dean Street in Soho with some friends and was unimpressed for various reasons and I tweeted my opinion. Impressively, the guys at LVPO Bar picked it up and responded asking for feedback and our conversation on Twitter continued.

Below are screenshots of our conversation and I have to commend them for encouraging me to return, when I had promised myself that I wouldn’t. Obviously the lure of a free bar tab is hard to refuse.

I’ll have to let you know if my opinion improves when I return next week. My Yelp review will wait until then too.

So social it hurts

Last night I met up with some people from twitter. None of whom I had met before in actual-real-old-fashioned-face-to-face life. It was weird, but weird-good, because we have ‘known’ each other for months despite never actually meeting before. This meant that we immediately got on like houses on fire (what a weird saying, but not weird-good) and we ended up having a really enjoyable night.

All this got me thinking about how bloody amazing Twitter is for social networking, and not just online. We’re all like-minded people who may have never met if we weren’t using Twitter. On the other hand I was told off at one point for tweeting during a conversation… And quite rightly so, that’s not very social. Or is it?

If you like me, my attitude, my sense of humour, or lack of sense of humour then you’ll most probably like the lovely people I met last night.

@Elika

@adlandsuit

@cwiss

@GrahamCreative

@HollyMix

@RealMenTweet

@Ferders

@TheIPA

@A_J

@mvharrison

@ThomDinsdale

And there’s some more, I think, but the alcohol made me forget their @names. Comment below if I’ve missed anyone, and apologies if I have (if it’s any consolation I tripped up a curb stone on my way home and fucked up my knee).

And here’s a random social networking related video that will make you smile.

Or vomit.

Tag cloud of my recent tweets…

Looks like I should probably cut down on the swearing. I don’t swear in real life, like with my mouth. Just seems that on twitter I find it acceptable to commit verbal violence.

Spacehopper twitter flashmob!!

There’s been a little twitter hype recently about the Hopper warehouse, created by Dare Digital for Sony Ericsson’s Space Hopper campaign. It follows other executions running online, through various social networks, in the press and on the underground. The individually designed space hoppers even congregated in their hundreds to take part in an online flash mob on Yahoo home pages across 17 countries.

Well today they’ve launched another execution using twitter to pump up a warehouse filled with spacehoppers. If you’re on twitter just mention #pumpt in one of your tweets and watch on the live webcam to see your tweet and a space hopper receive a small puff of life. Right now they’re pretty deflated but the hashtag is gaining momentum but I’m looking forward to some fully inflated spacehoppers later on today!

You can also follow the @chiefhopper on twitter. Like other, I too am wondering who will be the first celebrity twitterer to pick up on the #pumpt hashtag. I bet it’ll be a trending topic by the end of the day.

Oh yeah. Brand me like that.

I wrote a blog post titled ‘Brand me baby. BRAND ME!‘ last week about how I intend to brand myself for networking purposes. In brief I talked about how I’ve done it before and how I’m in the process of doing it now.

I’ve just had business cards printed from a design I created myself on photoshop. In order to make me recognisable to industry figures and potential employers I have synchronised my Twitter profile, business card and CV. By doing this I hope that when I give someone my business card they might just say “I know you, we’re following each other on Twitter” and so on.

Over the next couple of weeks I’ll by synchronising my Facebook profile and this blog too.

My girlfriend hadn’t read my previous post, nor had I told her about how I was branding myself, but by coincidence she’s been doing it too! Last night she went to a PR networking event in Canary Wharf where she met a PR top dog. she gave him her business card and he instantly recognised her from Twitter! Fantastic. That is exactly what I am branding myself for and she is a great example of how it works perfectly. She will probably write a better blog post about how she did it within the next week so check out her blog called ‘The Intern

If you’re thinking about making a business card make sure you have continuity between all ‘media’ you use.

Good idea? Done it before? Does it work? Does it not work? Comments…

I’m currently in the process of programming a second version called TwitterKittenPA. The personal assistant upgrade will be able to handle general e-mails, texts, phone calls, diary, twit pic, facebook and more.

If you’d like to pre-order the TwitterKitten, or TwitterKittenPA please post your request in a comment below.

You want a job? Get your tweet on.

So a while ago I went to a Social Media workshop at Dare Digital near Oxford Circus. It was run by NABs, the advertising charity who had told me about it. It was less of a workshop but was more of a presentation by two people, Helen from Dare and Edward from Wikijob. The room was filled with media people, most of whom had been made redundant and were looking to embrace the digital age so a lot of the stuff was a little basic and obvious to me. What it did do was highlight to me the importance of Twitter as a potential job finder.

I quickly got home and started pumping some energy into my dormant twitter profile. I changed my profile to say more about me, and the industry I want to work in, and began to follow the tweets of industry people and their companies. Of course I continued to e-mail and telephone for jobs along side this form of communication.

Within a week I had more responses from those I contacted on Twitter than a greater number of people I contacted via e-mail and telephone. Why is that? Is it because of the informality? Or due to only needing to write a 140 character reply?

Either way, I’m writing this post now after having a successful interview with Leila at We Are Social, which was arranged almost entirely through Twitter. So thank you to Helen and Edward for your advice. You had a tough audience that day (there was one woman who just couldn’t accept that Twitter might benefit her) but you can feel satisfied that your advice has helped at least one person from that group. I start as an intern at We Are Social tomorrow morning so thank you to Leila too.

If you wanna read about my interview and how I used Twitter to contact We Are Social read this blog post.

Just found this pretty cool site that finds the worlds most popular songs and artists based on how many times they’ve been mentioned on social networks.
