Brand me baby. BRAND ME!

First off, apologies for the lack of blog posts recently. I went to Southampton for my graduation ceremony and ball. It was an incredible weekend but far too messy to put on my bloggy blog, see my facebook if you dare.

Ok, here goes…

At uni I had lots of lectures on the importance of branding a product or service to give it a personality, voice and identity. So my creative partner and I thought about this for a while and then asked ourselves, can you brand a person?

After much thought the answer seemed obvious, that yes, you can brand yourself or others. Celebs use their manager or a PR agency to help brand themselves and products use a mix of advertising, marketing and PR to do it. So surely we could do it for ourselves.

So my partner, Dan (Hooper), and I set about branding ourselves. We lived next to each other and had the same lectures each day so walked into uni together everyday. We also carried a portfolio and sketch books under our arms, pretty much wherever we went, even if we didn’t need them that day. Very quickly people began mocking us for always being together and after a while the mocking subsided to allow for their appreciation that we were working hard together.

Many could finally see that we were creatives.

But the branding didn’t stop there. My surname is Harvey and my partners is Hooper so we began referring to each other by our last names, instead of our first names. Soon, others began doing the same. We created a ‘Hooper & Harvey’ logo to go on our portfolio, website and business cards (all with the same images and typography). We started an advertising themed radio show on the university radio station and begun to engage with other media students and industry professionals.

All this combined led to us becoming well known in university as ‘Hooper & Harvey’ and if we were ever alone people would ask where the other half of the team was. This was important in establishing ourselves as a successful and recognisable team, despite only our lecturers seeing our actual portfolio.

So today I received my new business card which I designed on photoshop last week. Watch this space because in the next week or so I will brand this very blog, my twitter profile and my facebook profile. When someone see’s my blog I want them to think ‘Oh this is the same guy I’ve been following on Twitter’ etc etc

What do you think? Any good? Piece of shit?
